Step 1: Choose Your Wine
Opt for simplicity by selecting three distinct wines. In my quest to create the perfect trio, I was drawn to a red to pair with chocolate, a sparkling rosé, and a crisp white. I sought advice from a knowledgeable friend at Total Wine to refine my choices. While I’ve curated a variety from various grapes, feel free to tailor your selection to your palate. Whether you’re inclined towards all reds, a pink-themed Valentine’s or Galentine’s celebration, or an array of whites, the possibilities are endless. It’s a delightful experience to explore various wines and their pairings with guidance from an expert.
These charming cards offer an effortless solution for guiding your guests on the ideal food pairings for each wine. You can order blank wine pairing cards from my online store, personalize them with your chosen pairings, and elegantly display them using a cork.
Step 2: Pick Your Appetizers and Wine Pairing
Here is a curated selection of wines I chose for my party, complete with their food pairings. The Riesling paired with blue cheese was a particular favorite among my guests and me. Click on each photo to discover more about each wine and the recommended appetizers to serve with them.
Step 3: Set Up You Wine Pairing Place Settings
At my wine pairing party, I arranged four place settings, each featuring three glasses for the different wine selections, along with a napkin and a plate.
You have the option to enhance each setting with a personalized place card or let your guests freely choose their seats.
Step 4: Prep and Set Up The Food
Maximize your preparation in advance. I usually set my table a day before the party, reducing the tasks for the event day. Additionally, I like to arrange flowers in a vase and place it at the table’s center, accompanied by playful signs reading “Classy, Sassy and Bad Assy With Wine” and “May Your New Year Be Filled With Magic, Cheer and Cheese“. Remember, the key to a successful party is a relaxed atmosphere. If the host is calm and joyful, it sets the tone for the guests to feel the same.
The day of preparations. I made the salami rose in the morning and refrigerated it until I was ready to serve my charcuterie. I plated the non perishables and arranged them on my table.
Step 5: How To Serve Your Wine
You have the choice of either self-service for your guests or pouring the wine yourself. I prefer to pour the first tasting, taking the opportunity to explain the various pairings. After that, I let my guests serve themselves. The pairing cards are quite useful in guiding your guests on which wine complements which food. Be open to your guests experimenting with different pairings. Mine certainly did, and it led us to explore and discover new and exciting combinations together.
