Modern hand lettering on black envelope

Do you love the look of hand lettering, but don’t have the time to practice? Find out how to fake hand lettering for that trendy calligraphy look on dark or black envelopes… and pretty much anything you like. This is a quick tip if you want that hand lettering look without months of practice. You can even use this tip for my wine hang tags, (be sure to delete the wording to make them blank when you order…and keep plenty on hand for when you need a quick wine gift) greeting cards, signs… add personal hand lettered style just about anything.

The supplies you will need to address your black or dark color envelopes with my beginner techniques for hand lettering or modern calligraphy.
Easy and quick modern calligraphy for addressing black envelopes

What you will need:
-Black or dark colored envelope
-Your address or greeting typed onto a page
or follow along with my printable calligraphy template. Link found at the end of this article.
-White soft pencil
– White No. 10 gel pen or white Sharpie (you can use a thinner one if you like)
-Gum eraser

You can pick up these supplies at Michaels or your local art supply store. 

Step 1. Set up a page the same size as your envelope. I have several template sizes set up in my printable calligraphy worksheets
Step 2. Type your address or greeting using your favorite font into a document. You will use this as a template. 
Step 3. Print them out or use my printables
Step 4. Use a soft white pencil to color the back of the page. Follow along with my mock modern calligraphy lettering video on Youtube
Step 5. Turn the page over and place it on top of your envelope. 
Step 6. Trace over the lettering to transfer the lettering onto your envelope.
Step 7. Set the paper aside. 
Step 8. Using a white gel pen or Sharpie trace over the lettering on your envelope and let dry. 
Step 9. Erase the white pencil by dabbing the envelope with a gum eraser.
