There are so many options to choose from, that it is difficult to know where to start. Here are some simple steps to achieving the perfect pillow setup!

Stay in Proportion
Size is a very important consideration. Decorative throw pillows should be thought of as an accent and should be chosen in relation to the size of your sofa. A great example is to start with one larger 20”x20” pillow. Then add in a couple of smaller 16”x16” pillows. Finally add a lumbar pillow. 

Odd vs Even
As a designer I was taught that odd numbers tend to look more appealing than even numbers. If you are looking for a sophisticated and artful appeal, the same would be true when considering your throw pillows. 

Create a Strong Focal Point
Choosing the colors and pattern on your throw pillows and making them work together can seem overwhelming. Remember, they don’t have to match perfectly and are considered more stylish if they don’t. Start with a base pillow that has the largest pattern and the most color in it. Then add pillows to compliment your base with one or two of those colors in a similar theme or pattern. Add in Some Texture
In addition to color, texture is a great way to add more interest to your throw pillow arrangement. Cotton pillows, faux fur, velvet, linen, chunky knits and tassels are some ideas to draw from. Or even a faux fur blanket.
